PwC Legal advises meat processor Reinert on merger with Kemper

OsnabrückNovember 11th 2019

PricewaterhouseCoopers Legal AG Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft (PwC Legal) has provided comprehensive legal advice to family business Reinert as it merged with family-run meat processor Kemper to form joint company “The Family Butchers” (TFB). The merger is still subject to approval by the antitrust authorities, but is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The Reinert group is based in Versmold, Westphalia. Founded in 1931, the company employs over 1,200 people at six production sites. In 2017, Reinert generated a turnover of €340m. Meat processor Kemper has been producing sausage, ham and convenience food products since 1888. The company, based in Nortrup, Lower Saxony, has around 1,400 employees.

The merger of the two family-run companies creates Germany’s second-largest meat processing company, with an annual turnover of over €700m. Around 2,600 people will work for TFB at nine production plants.

PwC Legal provided comprehensive advice on antitrust law to both Reinert and Kemper for this transaction.
